Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors

Adult men and women are invited to take part in the Liturgical Ministry of our Parish as Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors.  Lectors do the readings (except for the Gospel) at Sunday Mass.  Eucharistic Ministers distribute Holy Communion at Sunday Mass and/or bring Communion to the homebound.  If you are interested in serving Blessed Sacrament as a Eucharistic Minister or Lector, please contact Bella Manalo at 212-877-3111.

Altar Servers

Male and female parishioners of any age who have made their First Communion are invited to participate as Altar Servers to assist the priest in the celebration of Sunday Mass.  Please contact Gordon Beals at 212-877-3111.

 

 

Choir

The Blessed Sacrament Choir rehearses each Sunday at 10:45 AM and performs at the following 12:30 PM Mass.   The Choir does not perform on the third Sunday of each month or during the Summer.  If you are interested in singing in the Choir, please contact Dr. Gregory D'Agostino at (212) 799-0560.

 

 

Ushers

We are always in need of ushers and greeters to welcome parishioners, take up the collection and distribute bulletins.  Please contact Gordon Beals at (212) 877-3111

The School of the Blessed Sacrament

Religious Education for Children

The Religious Education program gives children  not attending Catholic school a solid foundation in Catholic education.  Each Sunday starts with a Family Mass at 10:00 AM in the Church followed by a class in the parish school.  Please contact Tina Silvestro at 212-877-3111.
 

 

R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)

The R.C.I.A. process welcomes adults who wish to become members of the Catholic Church.  The RCIA group meets on Monday evenings. Please contact Tina Silvestro at 212-877-3111.

Soup Kitchen

Blessed Sacrament’s Soup Kitchen provides the poor and homeless in our community a nourishing hot meal each Sunday in the School Cafeteria.  Volunteers work every six weeks helping to shop and prepare 100 or more meals.  A willingness to work on a team and a cheerful, caring attitude are required.  Please contact Theo Corbin at 212-877-3111. 

 

 

Shelter for Homeless Men

Our shelter provides transitional housing for homeless men who are HIV+ but are not yet seriously ill.  Our hope is to help the healing process, mentally and spiritually, by providing a safe and secure environment to improve the quality of their lives.  A volunteer should work two to four times per month.  Orientation will take place before scheduling.  Please contact Theo Corbin at 212-877-3111.

 

 

Respect Life

Together with our Westside Catholic Churches, the focus of the Respect Life group is to develop and maintain a strong commitment within our community for the value of life in all its stages, from conception to natural death.  The group strives to achieve this goal through prayer, education and special events.  Monthly meeting are held in various parishes in conjunction with the Upper West Side Coalition for Life.

 

 

Senior Outreach

The Senior Outreach Program helps seniors in the Parish find community and keep a healthy attitude about life and living in New York City.  A Health Fair, held quarterly on the second Saturday of each quarter, serves lunch and includes raffles, sale items and blood pressure checks.  Bus rides are scheduled in the Spring and Fall.  Other activities include:  Food for Families grocery collection and monthly distribution; escorting our blind parishioners to Mass, monthly mailings to homebound seniors; Thanksgiving Food Drive; the Anointing of the Sick services held twice a year.  Please contact Donna Wandrey at 212-877-3111.

Parish Council

The purpose of Blessed Sacrament’s Parish Council is to be a voice for the needs and desires of the congregation we serve.  Volunteers are needed to serve on and chair the six committees of the Parish Council (each listed below), organized around assisting the Pastor, priests and pastoral assistants with running the Parish and its ministries and programs.  Also, each spring, all parishioners are encouraged to run as candidates for the Parish Council.

Social Action Committee

 

The Social Action Committee meets on a monthly basis, reviewing and discussing various social and economic issues that face our Parish, neighborhood, city and world communities.  The Committee serves to advise and educate parishioners on selected issues throughout the year by providing educational materials and ways to get involved and engaged with their concerns.  For further information contact Dee Slattery at 212-877-3111.

 

 

Education and Spirituality Committee

 

The Education and Spirituality Committee focuses on the spiritual and religious education of students and adults through Catholic doctrine and teaching.  Please contact Tina Silvestro at(212) 877- 3111 for further information.

 

Liturgy Committee

The Liturgy Committee evaluates and assists the Parish staff in planning our liturgies.  The Committee recruits and trains Lectors Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers and the Ministry for the Homebound volunteers.  Please contact Gordon Beals at (212) 877- 3111 for further information.

 

 

Hospitality Committee

 

The Hospitality Committee promotes opportunities for parishioners to meet on a social basis by providing coffee hours after Mass, family fun hour and various other initiatives to promote meeting other parishioners.  Please contact Anita Pearl at (212) 877-3111 for further information.

Miraculous Medal Novena

The Miraculous Medal Novena is held on Mondays before the 12:10 PM Mass and before the 5:30 PM Mass.

 

 

Fatima Devotions

The Rosary is said daily after the 12:10 PM Mass.  There is also a Holy Hour from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Fridays.

 

 

Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament

There is an Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the first Friday of every month at 12:35 PM (after the 12:10 PM Mass) followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction at 5:15 PM

NYGente

NYGente is an organization formed by the Spanish-speaking community at Blessed Sacrament.  Under the direction of associate pastor Rev.
