Dear Parishioners and Friends:
Saturday of this week is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Mother, normally a Holyday of Obligation. The obligation is lifted this year because the Feast falls on a Saturday;. but it is still a special day for us—if possible try to attend Mass for the Feast of the Assumption. The Masses here at Blessed Sacrament will be offered on Friday evening at 5:30pm and Saturday at 7:30am and 12:10pm. The evening Mass celebrated on Saturday will be the liturgy for the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
There is a real and urgent need for housing here in New York. A bipartisan group of 133 state Assembly members is urging Gov. Cuomo to develop 35,000 units of
supportive housing across the state to combat homelessness. The Group sent a letter to the governor asking him to commit to develop the new housing—including 23,350 new units for adults, 10,150 units for families and 1,500 units for youth—by 2025. At present, there are 60,000 homeless people living in New York City, 23,000 of whom are children. Please give some thought to supporting the Assembly’s move on homelessness and contact the governor’s office to show your support.
Age-friendly Neighborhoods: The New York City Council and the New York Academy of Medicine Age-friendly Neighborhoods team are working to identify improvements that will make everyday living for older adults easier and more enjoyable. 17% of New Yorkers are considered older (over 60). If you are older, or know someone who is, Age-friendly Neighborhoods gathers resources for older New Yorkers. Visit the website at:

I hope you find some time this summer to relax. And Pray for Peace.
Fr. Duffell.
