FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME |
Job's cry of hopelessness stands in marked contrast to the hope of those who put their trust in Jesus, "who heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds". Such are the blessings of the Good News. |
| OUR LADY OF LOURDES – PRAYER FOR THE SICK |
Saturday, February 11th, is the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. It was also designated by John Paul II as World Day of the Sick – "a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one's sufferings for the good of the Church and reminding us to see in our sick brothers and sisters the face of Christ, who by suffering, dying and rising achieved the salvation of mankind". |
| COLLECTION |
Our collection last Sunday was $9,678. We are grateful for your support. |
| PETER'S PENCE COLLECTION |
Next week our diocese will take up the Peter's Pence Collection, which provides the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his most important charitable works. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Through your generosity, we cast the peace of Christ upon the world. |
| SOUP KITCHEN |
Today we have the collection for our Soup Kitchen. Each Sunday our volunteers prepare lunch for 75 -100 people. Your donations of money and theirs of time and talent make this possible. We are truly grateful as are those who are fed. |
| STEWARDSHIP APPEAL |
This week marks the beginning of the 2012 Archdiocesan Stewardship Appeal in our parish. You will be receiving a letter from Cardinal designate Dolan asking for your support of the vital ministries, programs and services provided through the Appeal each year. When you receive your letter, please fill out your pledge card and send it in. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. |
| WORLD DAY FOR CONSECRATED LIFE |
In 1997, John Paul II called for consecrated life to be promoted throughout the universal Church. This year World Day for Consecrated Life is observed on February 5th, the fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time. In the Archdiocese of New York, we are blessed with many forms of Consecrated Life. Most of us are familiar with the many congregations of men and women religious who are involved in a multiplicity of ministries within the Archdiocese. Not as many people are aware of the Contemplative-Monastic Orders that spend hours in prayer for the priests and people of New York. In addition, the order of Consecrated Virgins and the Secular Institutes who live vowed lives in the midst of the world are also in the Archdiocese. Promoting religious vocations and celebrating consecrated life are surely a challenge in the 21st Century. Yet, we must continue to do both so that the Lord will send men and women to religious communities to take up the task of building God's kingdom. Let us give thanks and pray! |
| COFFEE SUNDAY |
Today we will have a Coffee Hour in the Rectory after the 10 a.m., 11 a.m., & 12:30 p.m. Masses. Please join us. |
