For the last year and half our beautiful Rose Window has been under construction. Thanks to Patrick Clarke and the great men over at Sunlites Stained Glass (www.sunlightsstainedglass.com) in Rockaway Beach the work on our Rose Window is completed and ready to be unveiled.
On Sunday, April 7th the restored rose window was revealed.
Our 32’ Rose Window, by Clement Heaton, is a Gothic stone tracery design loosely based on the 13th Century upper ‘giant’ west rose window of the Cathedral at Reims in France. It depicts Angels offering worship to God with incense and musical instruments
At 32’ diameter it’s the Second largest rose in a Catholic Church in North America (Sacred Heart Cathedral in Newark has a larger one and one our size- St John the Divine episcopal has larger windows as well.)
Our 240 separate stained glass panels have all been removed, restored, reinstalled as well as all of the exterior safety glass being replaced .
